Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Services

What services does The Wheel Specialist offer?

We specialise exclusively in alloy wheel refurbishment and repair. Our services include full powder coat refurbishments, diamond cut finishes, custom colour changes, corrosion removal, wheel straightening, tyre supply and fitting, and cosmetic repairs. We also refurbish steel wheels and many types of split rims. Wheel welding is provided via trusted third-party specialists. We also sell bespoke wheel care products via our online shop.

Do you only refurbish alloy wheels?

No, we can refurbish both alloy and steel wheels. We also work with two-piece and some three-piece split rims, provided they are dismantled safely.

Do you repair cracked or bent wheels?

We focus on cosmetic and corrosion repairs. For structural damage such as cracks, we can outsource to specialist welding companies. For severe bends or buckles, your local branch will need to inspect the wheels to advise whether it is safe to repair.

Quality and Guarantees

How long does the finish last?

Our powder coat finishes are guaranteed for 24 months and our diamond cut finishes for 12 months, provided the wheels are cared for correctly. Customers often report their wheels still looking great many years after refurbishment.

Will refurbished wheels look as good as new?

In most cases, yes. Our multi-stage process can restore most wheels to a like-new appearance, depending on their original condition.

Do you match manufacturer finishes?

Yes. We work with OEM specifications and can closely match most factory colours and finishes.

Process and Turnaround

What is the refurbishment process?

We use a multi-stage process: strip, blast, repair, powder coat or machine (for diamond cut), and cure. Each step is carried out in a controlled workshop environment to ensure long-lasting results.

How long does the process take?

Standard powder coat refurbishment usually takes 24 hours. Diamond cut wheels can take up to 3 working days. Custom colours or split rims may require additional time.

Do I need to bring my wheels without tyres?

No. You can bring your whole vehicle, wheels with tyres, or wheels only. We will remove and refit tyres as part of the service.

Do I have to leave my car with you?

We offer insurance-approved loan wheels for certain vehicles. Call your local branch with your vehicle details and tyre size, and after a few quick questions we can confirm whether loan wheels are available for you.

Colours and Customisation

What colour options are available?

We offer a wide range of OEM finishes and custom powder coat colours. You can choose from Gloss, Satin, Shadow Chrome, Black Chrome and many more, or choose a more bespoke shade.

Can you customise wheels with unique designs?

Yes. Custom finishes and two-tone combinations are possible, depending on the wheel type. Speak to your local branch about design options.

Tyres and Fitment

Do you supply new tyres?

Yes, we can source and fit most major tyre brands, often within 24–48 hours. Competitive prices are available on request.

Are new valves included?

Yes. Standard valves are included. We also offer chrome or flush valves on request at extra cost.

Do you provide wheel balancing?

Yes. All wheels refitted with tyres are balanced before leaving our workshop, as part of the service.

Costs and Value

How much does alloy wheel refurbishment cost?

Pricing depends on wheel size, finish, and condition. As a guide, average prices range between £60 and £125 for standard powder coat and diamond cut finishes. Contact your local branch for an accurate quote.

Is it worth refurbishing wheels before selling my car?

Yes. Refurbished wheels improve a car’s appearance, increase buyer confidence, and can raise resale value.

Booking and Logistics

How do I book an appointment?

You can request an instant quote or book directly online, or call your nearest branch. Advance booking is recommended for same-day turnaround.

Do you offer a courier or collection service?

We do not arrange couriers, but you can organise your own collection and delivery.

Care and Maintenance

Do you provide specialist wheel care products?

Yes. We have our own range of products specifically designed for wheel care: Tyre Dress, Wheel Clean, and Wheel Protect, available online via our shop or in-branch.

How should I care for my refurbished wheels?

Wash wheels regularly with pH-neutral wheel cleaner, such as The Wheel Specialist's Wheel Clean. Avoid strong acids or harsh chemicals. Rinse off road salt during winter to help prevent corrosion. Wax wheels occasionally for added protection if not already using The Wheel Specialist's Wheel Protect.

Will refurbished wheels be easier to clean?

Yes. Powder coated finishes are smoother and more resistant to brake dust build-up, which makes them easier to maintain.

Safety and Environmental

Is powder coating safe for alloy wheels?

Yes. Powder coating is a factory-approved process. It uses moderate heat applied evenly, does not weaken the wheel, and provides added protection against corrosion.

What happens to old coatings and waste?

We follow strict environmental standards. Old paint and chemicals are disposed of responsibly.

Payment and Policies

What payment methods do you accept?

All branches accept debit and credit cards and bank transfers. Please confirm with your local branch when booking.

Do you require a deposit?

Some branches may request a small deposit to secure your booking.

Is the warranty transferable if I sell my car?

Yes. The warranty stays with the wheel, not the owner.
