As some of our followers may know The Wheel Specialist, a specialist alloy wheel refurbishment franchise, has recently teamed up with a number of other franchises to raise some money for WellChild. WellChild is the national charity for sick children who are working to ensure that seriously ill children and young people have the best possible quality of life through their innovative programmes of Care, Support and Research. Their network of WellChild Children’s Nurses, medical researchers and Helping Hands teams are all dedicated to providing crucial support for children and young people – regardless of their condition – many of whom require long-term and complex care. For more than 30 years they have been caring for, supporting and investing in the UK ’s seriously ill children and young people, and their families, and during that time there have been incredible medical breakthroughs. However, there are currently more children than ever before needing our support with estimates showing that well over 100,000 children in the UK have complex medical care needs.
WellChild is a fantastic charity and one that we were very proud to support – our charity football match against M1 Soap Life was a great success and all in all managed to raise a whooping £4,600 for the charity. The team from The Wheel Specialist Derby will be attending the CSMA Club Big Weekend on the 13th-14th of August so it’s the perfect opportunity to have a great day out and talk alloy wheels with the guys that know them best.

The Gwent Branch of Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research was founded in November 1979. A few months later a friend of one of the members suggested holding a Vintage Car Rally to raise funds.
The first Rally was held in October 1980 and, despite the torrential rain on the day and the fact that they did not have much of an idea what a car rally was all about, 68 exhibits showed and raised £635. The following year, armed with a little more knowledge and help from a few of the exhibitors, they were able to raise £2,100. It still rained but there were dry spells in between the showers. They watched the profit increase each year and we were delighted, in 1986, to reach the magic figure of £10,000.
Over the years since then they have suffered from many trials and tribulations. There have been postal strikes, the wettest weekend in Wales since records began and the fuel crisis to name but a few. However the Rally has gone from strength, and now anticipates in the region of 1,500 exhibits and over 10,000 visitors.
They are expecting over 1,500 exhibits, with cars ranging from Ford model Ts from the early 1900′s to American Cadillacs from the 1980′s and sports cars such as Stags, Morgans, Jaguar, MGs and many others. There will also be many vintage and classic motor cycles, commercial vehicles, tractors, stationary engines and military vehicles.
Added attractions will be a craft marquee, children’s amusements, autojumble, trade stands, and many other stalls. You will be able to buy refreshments from a number of outlets and a bar will also be open. The Wheel Specialist Cardiff / Newport are pleased to attend the event and sponsor this great cause. This is a great opportunity to meet the guys and chat to them about your wheels.

A couple of weeks ago saw the opening of the 2011 Growler Car Show held in Warwickshire. The event took place in Arbury Hall and this year a whooping 139 XKs showed up to show case the very best in Jaguar design. Over the event there was a range of competitions that took place to pick the best cars out of a stunning bunch.
The Wheel Specialist in Fareham has a great relationship with the organisers and members of the club and frequently welcomes them to their branch for a meet and a BBQ. Recently The Wheel Specialist has been refurbing lots of wheels for members of the club in preparation for this annual event.
Not only is the ‘best of show’award the most prized of the event but it’s also very difficult to get. Following the event our team in Fareham received a visit from none other than the winner of the ‘best of show’ award – grinning from cheek to cheek. He then went on to explain that the reason he had won was because of the radical change he had made to his alloy wheels – gloss black with a shiny, polished rim. He He said the judge could not get over how amazing the wheels made the whole car look – it gave him the edge over all the other cars, hence why he won.
It’s always fantastic when we hear about our happy customers – even better when we hear that we helped them secure ‘best of show’.

This weekend saw the coming together of M1 Soaplife and the Franchise Association team in a tense charity football match in aid of WellChild. M1 Soaplife, built up of a range of soap stars including John Barton and Aaron Livesy from Emmerdale and Ash Roy from Hollyoaks played a team built up of sponsors from the franchise industry. The Wheel Specialist was proud to sponsor and take part in the event hopefully contributing to this wonderful cause. Our very own Dean Cleaver played within the franchise team who gave the soap celebs a thrashing at 3-1. All in all it was a fantastic day in aid of a great cause.
